Our Community
Our company, Ecoturismo Kuyimá, is located in the
town of San Ignacio, in the middle of the El Vizcaíno
Biosphere Reserve. For more than ten years we have been dedicated
to promoting an ecological culture through ecotourism.
The members of Kuyimá are interested in the development
of communities in this region, especially San Ignacio;
this is why we are involved in a variety of academic and environmental
education activities. For example:
- We offer conferences about the conservation of
the zone's natural resources at the schools of San Ignacio
Pueblo and La Laguna.
- Some of us are active members of the 19 de Septiembre
Cooperative, which specializes in capturing marine
species (like lobsters and scallops).
- We are members and residents of the Ejido Luis
Echeverría Alvarez, which is a collectively owned
land parcel which neighbors the San Ignacio Lagoon.
- Each year we offer local students from all grades
trips to the area of reproduction of the gray whale.
- We organize local Earth Day festivities.
One of our primary goals in Kuyimá is that both international
visitors and the local population become aware that we are
in a region rich in both culture and natural resources.
All of our activities are held in a protected area, the El
Vizcaíno Reserve, which has been declared a Biosphere
Reserve and Patrimony of Humanity. In addition, because of
its unique characteristics, it is part of the International
Network of Reserves of UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere program.
