The Adventure with the Friendly Grey Whales of San Ignacio Lagoon

With more than 10 years receiving adventurous whale watchers Kuyimá has developed this 4-day/3-night adventure in Kuyimá's Eco-Lodge to give you one of the most amazing experiences of your lifetime.

Where is the Eco-Lodge and what is it like?

It is 35 miles south of San Ignacio town, by the most pristine Whale Sanctuary of the world: San Ignacio Lagoon. We have 10 rustic yet cozy thatched huts (or cabins), with wonderful sea and sky views. Each cabin is designed to accomodate two persons, for a maximum capacity of 20 people. It is possible to accomodate also a small kid with two adults.

How will I see the whales?

Every day, weather permitting, we will take you in a small, safe motorboat for up yo 8 people, through part of the sanctuary, to the whale watching area. We go in the morning, and watch the whales and their babies for a few hours. The activity is fairly regulated, so, only a few boats are allowed on the Lagoon at the same time in order to protect the whales and the undisturbed enviroment where they mate and breed. You will see them closer than you ever thought!!!

Which other facilities are there in the camp?

We all gather and share our meals in the Main Palapa, where delicious seafood and Mexican food is prepared and served for your delight. Special diets can be provided if requested well in advance. Our lodge has also clean and comfortable, yet environment-friendly toilets, as well as sun-heated fresh-water showers. We believe in comfort Ecotourism!

What else can I do in San Ignacio Lagoon?

Besides whalewatching, Kuyimá Eco-Lodge offers you interesting guided car, hike, bike and kayaking tours to different othrer natural and cultural highlights around the lagoon.

When is the best time to go and for how long?

Whales arrive to the lagoon by mid December, however they become friendlier when thier babies have grown a bit, from mid January on. Most people come to see whales in February and March, but any time between mid January and mid April is excelent to enjoy this unique spectacle. Kuyimá highly recommends this 4-day/3-night program, so you can take full advantage of the trip to San Ignacio lagoon and consider any weather issue that may prevent going whalewatching in any given day.

See our calendar for available dates next season. Book in advance since we only have room for 20 guest and the season is quite short. Ask for our shoulder season (December, January and April) discounted rates. We had fun in our last trip in April!

How do I make reservations?

Once you know when you want to go, just fill out the form and send it to us. The more information you send, the better we can help you to make of this an unforgettable experience. We will contact you by e-mail or telephone to confirm our availability and quote you the total cost of the services requested.

Your reservations wil be confirmed as soon as we receive a 30% deposit to guarantee your space. Do not hesitate to contact us for any further information.

Are there other options besides this package?

Yes, Kuyimá also offers a 5-day Baja California Whale Watching Adventure from Loreto or you may camp out at Kuyimita Camping, a camping area for tents and campers where you can contract Kuyimá services "a la carte", from whale watching trips to camping gear and delicious prepared meals.
