5-day
Baja California Adventure
with the friendly whales of
San Ignacio Lagoon
Our adventure starts and ends in
Loreto. Departure dates for 2007 are: January 31;
February 3, 6, 9, 21, 24
and 27; March 1, 4, 7, 10, 13,
22, 25, 28 and 31;
and April 3, 6, 9 and 12.
Day 1. We'll start
our journey through the heart of the Baja California Peninsula
at 8:00 AM at the Hotel Plaza Loreto.
We will drive by Bahía Concepción and its exhilarating
scenery of the Sea of Cortez, stopping by in Mulegé to visit
the ancient mission and enjoy a panoramic view of the
Mulegé River. After lunch in picturesque Santa Rosalía
we will visit the historic French quarter and the
steel-made church designed by Gustave Eiffel. We'll
continue to San Ignacio town, located in a luscious oasis in
the middle of the desert, where we will see the XVIIth century Jesuit
Mission or the San Francisco de la Sierra Rock Art Museum,
have diner and stay overnight.
Day 2. After
breakfast, we wil drive to San Ignacio Lagoon, arriving there
just in time for check-in our cabins and, after a short
explanation of our guides, we'll get on board the boats ("pangas") that will take us
whalewatching. After encountering the friendly whales and
enjoying the beauty of San Ignacio Lagoon we'll go back to
Kuyimá where delicious food will be
awaiting us. For the afternoon, our guides have prepared a nature
hike or, depending on the weather and tide conditions, will
take us on a bike
or kayak tour around the lagoon. In the evening, we'll enjoy a
delicious dinner and a presentation or video about the grey whale natural
history.
Day 3. Second day at the
lagoon. Breakfast. Morning whalewatching. You'll get to see
the breeding or mating activity of the amazing friendly giants
of San Ignacio Lagoon. After lunch and a merited
"siesta", our guides will drive us to any other of
the natural or cultural sites around the lagoon such as
the Salina del Cuarenta (impressive saltflat), the Cacti
Forest, the Kuyimá Geogliph or an interesting Oyster Farm
operation.
Day 4. Breakfast. We'll go on a
third whalewatching boat trip, to enjoy once again the charm
of the whales and the lagoon. For the afternoon, our guides
have prepared another interesting and amusing activity at the
lagoon surroundings, and then will have our farewell diner.
Day 5.
After an early breakfast, we will depart from San
Ignacio Lagoon. Our arrival to Loreto is
scheduled around 15:00.
