Getting to the Baja California Peninsula

In order to get to San Ignacio, several options exist:

  • Loreto (LTO) is the nearest international airport. Aeromexico and Aerocalifornia operate several direct flights from Mexico City, Los Angeles, San Diego, La Paz and Hermosillo. From Loreto, you can take a bus, a taxi or rent a car and drive the 250 km (150 mi) of breath-taking scenery to San Ignacio in ~3.5 hours, or contract Kuyimá's transportation service.
  • Tijuana is another convenient gateway to the Baja Califorrnia Peninsula. Several Mexican airlines (Aeromexico, Aerocalifornia, Aviacsa, Aerolíneas Internacionales, among others) fly directly to Tijuana airport from most major destinations in Mexico. From Tijuana you can take the bus, or drive your own or a rental car to San Ignacio. It is a 950 km (570 mi) drive and takes ~12 hours. There are is a couple of very convenient overnight bus runs departing from Tijuana in the evening and arriving to San Ignacio early next morning.
  • You can also fly to San Diego (California) and get to Tijuana across the San Ysidro border. You can acquire your tourist card from the Mexican migration office there.
  • You can fly to La Paz (Aeromexico, Aerocalifornia) and take a bus or rent a car, and drive the 650 km (390 mi) between this beautiful seaport and San Ignacio, stopping by at Loreto, Mulegé and Santa Rosalía to get a more complete sense of Baja California. If you choose to take an overnight bus to San Ignacio, we recommend you to take the latest one (10 PM) since its arrival is most convenient.
  • If you are already in northern Mexico (mainland states of Sonora, Chihuahua or Sinaloa), another convenient route is taking a ferry boat from Guaymas to Santa Rosalía, and from there take a 1-hour taxi or bus ride (72 km or 43 mi) west, to San Ignacio. There is also a regular (daily) ferry boat service from Mazatlan to La Paz. Check the ferry boat time schedules and fees in: www.ferrysematur.com.mx.
