Getting to the Baja California Peninsula
From any of these four gateways you can get to San Ignacio driving either your own or a rental car along the Transpeninsular or Mexican Highway 1 (see driving distances). You can also get to San Ignacio by bus with ABC, whose buses drive several runs along the peninsula throughout day and night
Aeroservicios Guerrero is a local small-aircraft carrier that operates daily flights from Guaymas, Sonora, to Santa Rosalía (44 km south of San Ignacio) and several flights a week from Hermosillo and Los Mochis, Sinaloa, to Loreto.
Most of our programs depart from San Ignacio town, however, we can arrange picking you up at Aeropuerto de Loreto, the nearest international airport, or we can help you to find your way to San Ignacio or the San Ignacio Lagoon either by public transportation or driving from anywhere in between San Diego, California, and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

The Transpeninsular Highway (MEX 1) is totally paved, in good shape and is safe. Though you have to be cautious while passing cargo vehicles at some narrow stretches, it is an amazing, classic road trip, worth to dedicate some extra time for enjoying the multiple landscapes and visiting its many natural and cultural highlights. You can drive your car or one that you can rent in Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, Loreto and Tijuana or San Diego. Aproximate distances and straight driving times from these and other towns in Baja California to San Ignacio are:
Loreto is currently being served by Alaskan Airlines from Los Angeles (LAX); whereas La Paz and Cabo are commonly served by Aeromexico, Mexicana and Volaris either from Mexican as well as from international destinations. Tijuana is frequently served by Aeromexico, Mexicana and Volaris from Mexico's mainland destinations.
There are four main gateways to the peninsula with international airports, the closest to San Ignacio being Loreto (171 miles), and La Paz (396 miles) and Cabo (520 miles) to the south, and Tijuana-San Diego (California, 551 miles) to the north.

If you are driving south, from Tijuana or Ensenada to San Ignacio, make sure to fill up gas in the Pemex station at El Rosario, or if driving north in Guerrero Negro, since there are is no regular fuel supply in between these two towns (438 km/263 mi).
