The Sierra de San Francisco, where the cave paintings are more than 5,000 years old, is part of the El Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve. It has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO because of its environmental and cultural importance and its extraordinary beauty.

Explore and discover the secrets and mysteries jealously guarded by these impressive mountains, in a unique setting where you can appreciate the way of life of the Southcalifornian rancher.

DAY TRIPS:

Departing from the town of San Ignacio and in a 2-hour drive approximately, you will reach the closest sites to admire ancestral art: El Ratón or El Palmarito. You must sign a release letter and fill out a medical, food and special needs form.

ALL-INCLUSIVE PACKAGE

Duration: 5-6 hours.

Includes: Transportation, lunch or dinner, INAH permit, local guide, photo or video camera (non-professional) and CONANP fees for entrance to the protected area.

Season: All year round

Degree of difficulty: Minimum, suitable for people of any age

EL PALMARITO cave

Duration: 8 hours.

Includes: Transportation, lunch or dinner, INAH permit, local guide, camera or video use fee (non-professional), and CONANP fee for entrance to the natural protected area.

Season: September to June

Degree of difficulty: Intermediate. Suitable for people in good health and physical condition. It involves a walk of approximately 3 hours (round trip). Not recommended for children under 8 years old and elderly people.

EXPEDITIONS FROM 3 DAYS ONWARDS

Starting from the town of San Ignacio, you can choose from a group of expeditions that provide different possibilities with varying degrees of difficulty. Full service packages include:

*INAH permits (Entrance to the archaeological zone and right to use a photographic or video camera for non-profit purposes)

*Payment of CONANP fees (entrance to a natural protected area)

*Professional guide and cook

*Local guides (ranchers)

*Camping equipment (two-person tent, lightweight mattress and sleeping bag)

*Food and drink

*Mounting and loading animals (mules and donkeys)

* Private land transportation from San Ignacio (round trip)

Expeditions can be made on foot, in which case one mule is required for every three visitors

A letter of release from liability must be signed and a medical, food and special needs form completed on the expedition.

Season: From October to May

Arroyo EL PARRAL:

The expedition begins at Rancho El Agüajito II in the Santa Marta area. Depending on the weather, the aptitude of the travelers and the time available, up to 4 caves of level I and II can be visited according to the INAH.

Visit: “La Serpiente”, “Los Corralitos”, “Clarita o Supernova” and “El Mono Alto”.

Duration: 3 days 2 nights

Reservation: 30 days in advance and subject to the loading capacity of the site

Degree of difficulty: Moderate difficult to demanding For people in good health, physically active with experience in long walks and rough terrain with light weight to carry. Not recommended for children under 12.

SANTA TERESA CANYON

The expedition starts at Rancho Guadalupe or Albergue de San Francisco. Depending on the weather, the aptitude of the travelers and the time available, up to 6 caves of level I and II can be visited according to the INAH.

Visit: Cueva La Pintada, Las Flechas, La Soledad, La Boca de San Julio, Los Músicos and Petrograbados (the Chuy stone).

Duration: 3 days 2 nights

Reservation: minimum 15 days in advance and subject to the loading capacity of the site

Degree of difficulty: Moderate difficult to demanding For people in good health, physically active with experience in long walks and rough terrain with light weight to carry. Not recommended for children under 12.

SAN GREGORIO-SANTA TERESA CIRCUIT

The expedition starts at Rancho Guadalupe and ends at Rancho de San Francisco. Depending on weather conditions, travelers and time available, up to 12 caves of level I, II and III can be visited according to INAH

Visit: San Gregorio Caves 1 and 2, La Familia, Las Caguamas, San Casimiro, El Cacarizo, La Pintada, Las Flechas, La Soledad, La Boca de San Julio, Los Músicos and Petrograbados (the Chuy stone).

Duration: 6 days 5 nights

Reservation: 30 days in advance and subject to the loading capacity of the site

Degree of difficulty: Moderate difficult to demanding For people in good health,

physically active with experience in long and rough terrain walks with

lightweight to go.
